EAMT is an educational, creative research and development institution, which provides education in areas related to music and theatre on BA, MA and PhD levels. As a public university, the task of EAMT is to provide services for society in its areas of activity and
to prepare university students for being responsible citizens. In its activity, EAMT proceeds from the precondition that one of the primary objectives of Estonia as a country is the preservation of Estonian language and culture. As of 9 September 2014 there are 712 students at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre includes a teaching staff of 282, of which 120 are engaged on a contractual (hourly) basis; there are also 18 emeritus professors and 11 emeritus associate professors. Many professors are employed part-time. The total number of full-time academic positions is 114,05. The Academy also employs 7 researchers and support personnel of 86 people.
The Centre for Cultural Management and Humanities of EAMT is responsible for entrepreneurial, languages and humanitarian education for all the disciplines of the academy. Cultural Management MA Programme (CM) that belongs to the Center, was established in the EAMT in 2002. Since then, the programme released more than 60 graduates, who had all curriculum and full academic thesis in English language. The programme was international from the very beginning (50%-70% international professors) and has been actively engaged in different EU funded projects. From 2012 the MA programme was modified to be an innovative two-year joint master program with Estonian Business School to strengthen the local sustainability and economic and managerial competences. The programme is international, interdisciplinary and flexible with a focus on management of culture and creative industries. The MA programme is intended for those interested in managing cultural institutions and organizing projects including entrepreneurship and the scope of art projects with societal impact. The learning is based on different pedagogical approaches and methods. A wide variety of courses offer students a chance to engage in cultural discourse, learn about creative industries and cultural entrepreneurship and provides access to creative networks. The programme includes cultural policy questions and gives tools to the students to participate in the relevant policy discussion.
